Overall there have been far fewer surprises than we had hoped for at this years Mobile World Congress, but one nice surprise which many may have missed is that ARM are showing off a prototype Samsung tablet running the Exynos 5 Octa chip. The 5 Octa was first unveiled at CES, but it’s only now at MWC we can actually see the chip in action.

The 8-cores are split in to 4 Cortex-A7 cores and 4 Cortex A-15 cores, which can instantly turn on and off, or share processes depending on the task. Engadget have a video here, which shows the tablet in action and how the cores switch depending on what is required. For example complex graphics are handled by the A15 portion of the chip while video playback goes to the A7 side.

The idea is that the 5 Octa will not only be powerful but also be more efficient, with claims that power usage could be cut as much as 50% depending on how you use a Exynos 5 Octa device.

As we reported earlier, HP’s first tablet named the Slate 7 has been unveiled, and rather than going after the premium tablet customer, they have gone after the budget market, even managing to under-cut the Asus made Nexus 7! But that isn’t to say high-end HP Android tablets aren’t on the cards.

HP aren’t spilling the beans just yet, but it seems inevitable if they really want to become the world’s largest computer vendor.

Basically the Note 8.0 is an oversized Galaxy S3 looking tablet running a quad-core Exynos 4 quad-core CPU running at 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM, HSPA+21 and a large 4600mAh battery! Android 4.1.2 comes as standard, but we can expect Jelly Bean 4.2 to be in the works.

Pricing and a launch date have not been confirmed but a general time-frame of Q2 this year means we won’t have long to wait!

Not only that but it comes at a low price and some interesting specs.

Let’s take a quick look at the highlights! The HP Slate 7 packs a stock install of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a dual-core CPU running at 1.6GHz, 7-inch display, and Beats Audio all for just $169!

It’s not Nexus 7 beater just yet, as the display is a lower res 1024 x 600 unit, there is no NFC, GPS or a quad-core CPU, but it does offer users a similar stock Android experience the addition of a rear camera and most importantly of all a micro SD card slot for boosting the 8GB of on-board storage.

It’s that time of year again so pull up a chair, grab a pint of your favourite beverage and sit back to enjoy the iPad mini rumour and leak roller coaster!

As is normally the case, the first iPad mini 2 leaks is a gallery of photos depicting the rear of the new Apple tablet. Dubbed by many as the Retina iPad Mini, due to rumours the new 7.9-inch tablet will receive a boost in pixel density, the new iPad mini is expected to arrive on the market sometime later this year. So, what juicy details to these photos give away?

We’ll the case appears to be thicker than the original iPad mini, which would allow for the larger battery the retina display would need, we can also see that the Apple logo is in blue, suggesting their might be a number of colour options available than the current black or silver.

The images don’t give much more away, however analysts have taken a look at the components needed to produce the Retina iPad Mini and have concluded that the new tablet could cost as much as 30% more than the original!

What was so shocking was the fact the company announced this on the day of the real iPad mini launch!

Months past and we have finally crept in to 2013 with very little word on the iPad mini clone, so was it all a hoax? Was it just vapourware? These spy photos would suggest no.

The GooPad mini shown here may finally go on sale as the Minipad, whether or not it has maintained it’s $99 price tag or not we don’t know, but we have learned that this little tablet will feature Mediatek’s dual-core MT6577 CPU. This will effectively mean the GooPad mini is will be a 7.85-inch Android tablet with call functionality, GPS,3G and dual-sim stand-by!

We can see from the photos that the iPad mini clone has a very convincing body, and even the Android based OS has a convincing iOS look and features some Apple functions such as Siri and iTunes Sync!

It also looks as though the GooPad Mini will be running a lower resolution screen than the real iPad, and icons on the springboard appear much larger than they do on the genuine iPad mini.

More details as we get them.

I’ll be perfectly honest with you, I’ve not really been taking much notice of Google’s project glass! That’s all changed after watching this demo video though, and a pair will certainly be on my Christmas list for 2014!

In the video we get to see the Google glasses being used in various situations from skydiving and stunt plane flying to ice sculpture and sharing images! I have to say that after seeing them used to help a skier follow a route and the ability to take photos or record video with a simple voice command, I’m pretty excited!

The Google Glasses project may look a little far fetched to some, but according to sources the technology could be on the market as soon as next year!

Remember back at CES when Lenovo launched the most amazing Android phone every conceived! It was a shock for us too, but that’s nothing to just how shocking the price tag is reported as being!

Chinese tech site CnBeta are reporting that the Intel powered Lenovo K900 will cost 3999 Yuan when launched in China later this year, that’s around $640 based on today’s exchange rates!

Although expensive the K900 does represent the first Intel powered Android phone on the market, and the specification along with the stainless steel design is top-notch to say the very least! For a quick re-cap, the display is a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 HD unit, this is powered by a Intel Z2580 2GHz processor with SGX544MP the GPU and 2GB RAM, and there is 16GB of built-in memory as standard!

The price isn’t the worst of it either, as the K900 looks to be a China only phone meaning international buyers will have to order their phones through resellers with hefty profits added on top!
